ROI achieved in only 8 weeks through reduced sludge disposal costs
The Challenge
A beef slaughterhouse was producing large volumes of sludge from its wastewater treatment process. The sludge contained approximately 4% dry solids, resulting in high transportation and disposal costs. The customer was looking for a reliable and low-maintenance solution to reduce sludge volume while keeping operational costs under control.
The Solution
VDZ Aqua supplied an EM 100/1200 Gravity Belt Table, specifically designed for continuous sludge dewatering. The system uses gravity drainage over a moving filter belt, allowing water to separate naturally from the sludge. Internal sludge turning devices improve drainage efficiency, while an automatic belt washing system ensures reliable operation and consistent performance. The supplied unit was designed to handle sludge flows up to 8 m³/h from the slaughterhouse wastewater treatment process.
The Results
The gravity belt table significantly reduced the sludge volume by increasing the dry solids concentration from approximately 4% to 8–10%. This resulted in lower sludge handling, transportation, and disposal costs, while providing the customer with a simple, energy-efficient dewatering solution requiring minimal operator attention. The installation improved the overall efficiency of the wastewater treatment process and created a more sustainable sludge management strategy for the slaughterhouse.
The reduction in sludge transport and disposal costs delivered immediate financial benefits. As a result, the customer achieved a full return on investment in just 8 weeks, demonstrating the strong economic value of efficient sludge dewatering.
